Hey guys! It was my birthday a few days ago and a friend got me an orchid , i love these plants so so much but have never actually owned one, and now i do! I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me as i dont know how to care for these plants and have been told they arnt easy to look after, i know its an phalaenopsis and i have posted a few pics aswell. Also one more thing i know i will have to cut the stalks when the flowers drop but there is a little growth on one of the stalks so do i not cut this stalk atall or what? Please help, i want to give this gorgeous plant the best possible care i can so that it will be healthy for years to come! Thanks guys

don't cut off the other little stalk. It may be a flowering branch. Just leave it and see if anything comes of it.

I've jsut wrote this in another orchid post, so I've just copied and pasted it for you.

I plant mine in orchid bark - you can buy packets from the garden centre. I have orchid fertlizer as well. During summer/flowering times I fertilize every 2nd/3rd watering. In summer I water about once a week to once every week and a half. I pour water through the pot to 'wash anything out' and then I leave it in water for about 10mins and then drain it thoroughly. In winter I water every 2-3 weeks.
