I just started looking more closely at ferns, so your article arrives at the perfect time. They are great to design with because of all the different textures and the ones that are hardy around here like the high-canopy shade that is found in many gardens. And deer generally leave them alone! Can you tell me the name of the plant in your article that looks like long green hair? What a great looking plant!
Hi Wandy
Just right timing! Yes, you can make a whole ferns garden or many arrangements as they are so varied. The one looking like hair is Vittaria isoetifolia which grows as epiphytic in cloud forest at some elevation (picture was taken at 1100m high), it belongs to the family Vittariaceae which has 10 different generas, the genus Vittaria itself has some 50 to 60 different species, pantropical.
Sure, you can't grow this kind of plants if you don't have a glass house with mist sprayer which automatically turn on when the air is too dry. I do not think this plant would be for sale except maybe in some real specialzed nursery!
