My mom's name is Althea, and she was named after a very beloved great aunt. Mom went on to name me Althea as well. Mom had a lovely big Althea bush at home in CT; we always lost a few branches to ice storms, but somehow that bush always came back. Mom is in a nursing home now, and I've moved to SC, where I've got 4 small Althea bushes in my gardens, just started this year, and every time I water them, and look at their beautiful blooms, I think of Mom, who gave me my love of gardening.
Thanks so much for your article! It's good information to have, and it inspires me to try some other varieties. At least I don't have to worry about ice storms here!
