SOLVED: Purple Mystery Plant

Hobart, IN

What the heck is it? Note it has several "spikes" (for lack of a better word - can't think of it) of flowers per plant and the stalks are very purple.... BTW - it's driving me CRAZY so if anyone knows, I'll love you forever!!
They are 4 to 5 feet tall..... btw....

It appears to be a type of amaranth

Looks like an amaranthus to me. I didn't know what one I had and had to send pieces of the flower and seeds to IA State University for identification.

Okay, I'm a little confused - why are there two threads with the same photo? Here's the other one: http://davesgarden.com/showthread/103332.html

I replied to the other one, and my guess is Amaranthus cruentus. There's a photo of A. cruentus for comparison in my reply - hope that helps!

:0 I noticed they were the same picture too.
