Silly question I am sure. But I am also just as sure that someone here on DG has the answer.
We have what my husband loosly calls a pond. Actually it is a huge horse trough that houses some fish and a turtle. We have a filter and a pump, which gets gunked up after a while and stops working. Once every six months or so ( I know this is disgusting) when he can't see any thing but green gunk, hubby wants to clean it out. and start over.
My question is, would this green stinky water be good or bad for my plants, lawn ect?
If it would be good I wouldn't mind filling buckets and watering with it. Please can anyone answer this for me. I have heard fish emulsion is good for plants, whatever fish emulsion is.

I don't see why the green gunky water would harm your plants. Everything in there is organic and while not pretty, it isn't dangerous.
Fish emulsion is a by product of the fish processing industry. The waste from processing the fish has phosphoric or sulphuric acid added, which also adds nutrients. Fish emulsion is parts of fish, not what comes out of a fish.
When you say your husband starts over, do you mean with new fish and a new turtle?

No we don't start over with new fish and a new turtle. :) I have the fun job of trying to find them in the mucky water. However, when we cleaned it six-seven months ago there were 15 fish. Last week when we did this always fun job, we only had five fish. So I guess the water was part fish. :)
dwerland, you can most assuredly use that water on your plants, and to make the job even easier, If you dip out approximately one third of the water every 3 or 4 weeks and replace it with fresh water, it really cuts down on the muck. You can use that water on your plants also.
