Every year I put in 10+ flats of impatiens (shade, shade, shade). The last two years I've purchased my annuals from a different, really big nursery. And the last two years, the impatiens don't seem to grow much as compared to previous years. They bloom pretty well but the plants themselves don't grow much. They get fertilizer (10-10-10 when planted and usually a shot of liquid fertilizer mid-season) and they get supplemental water when it gets dry. Is it possible that the nursery may be using some kind of growth regulator to keep the annuals from getting too tall or leggy in the greenhouses? My Browallia from seed, which were smaller than the impatiens when planted, are now towering over the impatiens. I'm stumped as to why the plants don't seem to grow much. I'd appreciate any input on this.
