We are leaving this year before the first frost and want to save our Dahlias, can this be done?

If I were going to lose my Dahlia any way I would would take the chanch and move them .It is best to wait until after the first frost but if you can`t , you can`t.My. gardening book says to cut the stalk about 6 in. above the tubor . Dahlia s should be dried for only 2 hrs. befour storing in plastic-lined shallow boxes with a blanket of vermiculite or peat moss

I have dug and saved them without a frost on a number of years. To the above suggestion I might add that a dark room is part of the success for those who dig and save them...the cooler the better down to no lower than thirty five degrees.
