I have roughly 100 Iris rhizomes or whatever they are called. My sis is coming this weekend so we can get my iris bed started. Right now the rhizomes are sitting in my shed. Where they are going is grass and weeds now. Our plans are to dig up the grass, work the dirt and plant the irises. If I change my mind and do some lasagne layering, can we plant the irises next spring? Or could we do a layering of sorts, ending with some good soil on top and then plant the rhizomes in that? Since they get planted basically at the surface, would it be okay to just let the layers decompose under them?
Any suggestions/hints would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the world of irises!!! I got almost all of these rhizomes at the RU this spring.
