Hi, do stonecrop sedum (like Sedum Herbstfreud, sedum spectabile) need a cold dormancy period in winter? ie: Can I plant some cuttings indoors in the autumn and move them into the ground in the spring?

They grow fine in climates that don't have very cold winters, so I expect they'd be fine.

The Autumn Glory Sedum that my wife has stays outside all winter in our climate. Never dies back. Even the 20% temps of last winter didn't kill it. Of course your temps get a lot lower than that.

That should work just fine, Dave. Nurseries start them in warm greenhouses for spring sale, so your cuttings should do fine in the ground in spring. That gives them plenty of time to acclimate.
