I just wanted to share that I loved this new Salvia in our garden up until a month ago. It grew to be over 7' tall and had lovely blooms for a little over a month. I was thrilled because I wanted a "sea of red" in one section of our garden...with 'Lady in Red' in front, 'Subrotunda' in the middle and the 'Praclara' in the back...all according to height from low to high.
The section looked lush and beautiful through July. From mid July on, the amount of blooms the Praeclara had grew less and less til there was hardly any by mid August. Currently there is none now and the plants are nearly bare! :(
I realize all plants have their own "life span" so to speak, but I assumed they would continue to rebloom til the 1st frost like all the other Salvias we have...I guess I'm in shock by it's short life span.
We have 'Black Cherry', 'Maraschino', 'Black and Blue', 'Ultra Violet', Salvia Mesa 'Rose' and 'Purple', 'Coral Nymph', 'Dreamsicle', 'Lady in Red', 'Subrotunda', and 'Penstemonoides'...all of which are still looking healthy and doing well.
What has been your experience with this Salvia? Do you find this to be unusual? Are there other Salvias that have a short life span?
Any suggestions on a replacement Salvia I could use to put behind 'Subrotunda' next year?
Here's a pic...
Help! TIA :)
Susan
