| Hello Everyone,
A customer brought me a gift today that she made.
She glued a plate to a block of wood, then glued a smaller plate inside the first plate and then a small tulip shaped bowl to the center. I assume all the materials except for the wood were either glass or china. The wood had a hole drilled in it so the entire thing can be stuck on a rebar fence post ... small one like they use for electric fencing.
The effect was a cute "flower" for the garden.
Does anyone know what kind of "glue" I'd have to use, to make the bond permanent and weather proof.
I want to try and make one myself. I'm thinking this would be a cute winter project, and something I can donate to our Daylily Club's spring banquet. Not to mention, I would like a few more myself. ;)

| Kathy, please post a picture of that "flower". Sounds like something I would love to try and make. I surely have enough glass pieces I've picked up at the thrift store. I have used Welders glue (bought at Wal-Mart), but most of the gals use a silicone (sp) that is used for windows & aluminum. I hope I got that right. I know I bought some, but can't seem to remember where I put it at the moment. What I need is an extra room to store all my treasures.

| I took 3 photos ... one is a full shot; one is a close up of the "flower", and one is a shot of the back.
I am thinking that I will stain the wood back and put some polyurethane on it to protect it from the elements and make it look more finished. You could also add some kind of trim around the edge of the wood I guess.
There is a deep hole drilled up into the edge of the wood circle so that it can be placed on the "fence post".

| I should have got a side shot so you could tell that it is 3 pieces.
Plate #1; Plate #2, and then the center is a little "bowl" that is green with a blue petal like edge. |

| Thanks for the pictures, Kathy, that is the cutest "flower". I may have some pieces here to start with. I didn't imagine it like that, I do need some. I have seen horsehoes made into a sunflower, but no horseshoes and you need to soder the flower to the stem.
I sure do miss my printer at times like this. Waiting to hear that Costco has my color cartridge refilled. So much cheaper than buying a new one, refilled cost me $13.99 for color and $10.99 for black. Always have to show DH pictures of the trash to treasures pieces I'd like to make. |

| I have some smaller plates here that are being put aside for a "flower" Painting the wood backing green would add a nice touch, like real flowers. Oh, Monday's are my thrift store day, looking for flower parts now.
Thanks so much for sharing with us. |

| You are so right nanaka, I'm looking at some plates I have here with this project in mind. When I check out all the plates at the thrift store I will be thinking of this flower. I think I saw some of those tulip shaped small bowls at the Dollar Tree Store. |

| That is pretty!. Wonder if they could be put on the thick bamboo or wooden dowels. Of course that would'nt last as long as the rebar out in weather and and all. Just a couple of ideas running around in the old head. |

| SAMIGAL, WOW!! I didn't know you could get printer cartridges refilled. I belong to Costco, too. I just googled printer cartridge refill and found some Walgreens do this as well. You just saved me some cash--thanks so much!! |

| J2222, I was looking at ink cartridges at Cosco when I saw a card there advertising this process. I don't know if all Costco's do this, but I never thought about googling and seeing who else did it. Maybe this is one way to get the information out for everyone. Another thing the gal told me is not to put the empty cartridges in a plastic bag, of course which I had done, but in an envelope. |

| You can buy "fence post" that are made out of rebar ... The size that are made for electrical fences work perfect for this project. They have a metal wedge at the bottom to keep them in the ground solidly and only cost about $1 each.
You can probably find them in the big box stores like Lowes, or at a local farm supply store, like "Tractor Supply"

| I asked hubby if you could cut rebar and he said you could, I asked how and he said hack saw. That would take forever and doesn't sound easy to me. I have a piece of rebar here I was going to use for tipsy pots, but guess I could check out at Lowe's for the other. |

| Thanks Digger for tip on rebar. Better not let hubby get a hold of mine.
J2222, I got my cartridges back from Costco and was so disappointed when I tried to print a picture of those "Flowers" because every thing came out pink. I called them this morning and the gal said to come back for a refund or they could sent it back again. When I talked to the young man there he said he couldn't understand what happened. They said it passed a test, but I don't think I like everything pink. I decided to let them send it back, now wait another week. BTW they don't do every brand, I have a HP. Also the young man said in October they will be doing that process in their store and not having to send it out. I even gave him the picture I printed out so they can see what happened. |

| Walmart sells refill kits for about $14 and each kits will refill a cartridge 3-4 times. |

| How hard would it be to fill your own cartridges. Sure would be a lot cheaper. My second time getting my cartridge back the pictures were perfect. I just don't know what could have happened, but happy about it now.
I got a couple of plates that will work perfect for my "flower" The smaller one has a brown circle in the center so don't think I will add a small piece for the 3rd piece. Just have to get a round piece of wood and then I can start this project. |

| Thank you for the information on refilling cartridges. I just spent almost $100 getting new cartridges for Tony's son. Tony almost went into shock when I told him how much they were. I told him the were a present for him and he could take up with his son what, if anything, he was owed.
And I love the flower idea. I found a set of four of the "petal" dishes at a thrift shop and bought them even though I wasn't sure how I'd use them (I'm sure no one else has ever done this). Now I know. Thanks for posting.
