I was jumping around looking to find out about what the root of a asparagus fern looks like. When I came across this web site. I could not believe what I saw, I saw the answer but I dont want to be a busy body but I read the conversation between to people, now I only remeber one name TirNaNog that is because I am from the bay area San Ramon and that is right next to Dublin So it is true they (Asparagus fern) have a bulb like thing attached to the root but the roots are taking over. what shall I do with the old roots?
Hi and welcome to Daves Garden! When I repot my asp. fern I always have my pruners handy and simply clip off some of the long roots, little "bulb like things" and all. It actually helps the plant by engouraging new root growth.
P.S. Feel free to read what others have written here in their conversations. That's one reason why we do it - to help each other learn more about the particular subject. You're not being a busy body!
Those are for storage of water for periods of drought. They aren't desert plants and can die from lack of water, but they can go longer than a lot of plants between waterings because of this.
Feliceanne, if there were a protocal about adding to a post, it was broken a long time ago. Everyone has has questions and a bunch of folk have answers. If it is a question on the same topic as the thread you are reading, jump on in. If it is about something else, start a new thread...someone will be there to help you.
Welcome to Dave's Garden...there are all kinds of things growing here...grin
