We are adding to our house. We will double the size of the living room & also the master bedroom.
Also will have a 10 ft x 18 ft room. Kind of an extra room. It will have lots of windows facing our flower gardens. Can be used as a family room. It will be my new office. It's in a small bedroom now & that don't work good.
I started tearing off an old porch today. Burned the wood tonight. I was going to finish the mess tomorrow, but both front tires on my tractor took on nails. Can't fix them until Tuesday.
Power company & electrician are coming the 16th to upgrade our electric. We are way under powered.
I'll add some pictures tomorrow.

Roof will be a little different, but will look like it was never added on to, just all built at once.

Bernie, I can't tell if that water is supposed to be there or not! It's look not...but...there's been a lot of rain this week.

I am so envious of Bertha...getting her house redone. LOL. A farmer AND a carpenter, all in one...she's got a gem!

What will you do with the outside of the house? Paint? Siding?

You are just always such a busy beaver.

It will match this. Vinyl siding with cedar wood trim around windows.
Window boxes on all south side windows.
I took a picture of a porch I like & will copy to put on the front. Maybe next year before that's done. Got to ration the money & only do what can be paid for.

You all are cranking!

Curious:
What's the practice there in MN on a vapor barrier on the crawlspace floor/dirt?
Do you bottom insulate between the joists?

No. This will be open to the basement. So will be nice & dry.
We have no building code here, so we can build it right instead of doing some of the dumb things the "Powers to Be" think should be done.
We are even building the floor the old fashioned way. A subfloor & a finished floor. (Spell check never heard of subfloor!)
Floor is all on now & we will start walls shortly.

Bernie, Will you be taking the walls out where the door is now?

We had an issue this past weekend. Something was tearing up our door jamb. We'd come home and a pile of "mud, wood, etc" was at the door. At first I thought it was these salamanders that I've been finding lately (about 5 inches long). Then the other night I heard digging really loud by the door..looked and couldn't see what was doing it, but it was making a hole into the inside of the cellarway...thought surely it had to be a mouse. Sunday came home from church and our concrete is all tore up at the bottom of the stairs and piles of "mud" all over the place, where the dirt under the concrete floor has been rooted up. Never have seen anything like it. Then out of a small pile of leaves that had blown down there...comes a mole!!!! Not a little one either. Now I'm wondering, how did that thing get into my door jamb and do so much destruction?

Bernie, have you ever seen this happen?

No.
From the door to the left of it the wall comes out. That is the living room.
About doubles the size of it.

Rained on us yesterday. Today started cold. We got going after lunch.
Walls are up, we will try & figure out the roof next.
This will be the addition to the bedroom. Closet goes in the corner where the cross blocking is.

The little one on the right is an old single car garage converted to our Antique shop. No longer in that business, so it is storage.
The one to the left is our cabinet shop. We built that about 4 years ago.
We build something every year with garden profit.
Next year we are going to tear down an old hog house & rebuild it twice as big for a tool shop & a 2 car garage.
After that we may have to stop & enjoy it all!

I've torn down 4 now and never found anything pretty.

I put this together a number of years ago. Big problem was the window. Water got behind the sheeting & caused mold.
I have a one piece molded walkin shower.

It seems to always find it's way in on the multi-piece units.
Add a window and... we had the exact setup on the one we demo'd last Spring.
Same mold results but termites had found the wet wood.
It's all better now.

Like the one piece units. Much more reliable.
