I live in Georgia and we do get a cold winter where I live. (just not as cold and long as the northern states) Zone 7b. I recently visited my father in Maryland and he had cut all his peony stems down to the ground. He said he did that every year although I never remembered he had done that. We had driven up to Penn. to visit family and I noticed the peony plants in yards there were not cut back. I have never cut mine back and wonder if I should have been cutting them back all this time. I just remove the dead growth in the early spring when I clean out my flower beds. If I should be cutting them off, what month is good to do this? Thanks, tish
