Forgive my excitement, but when I tried the usual percolation tests before, I measured the time in days, weeks. Like pouring water in a ceramic bowl. I decided I wanted a little rain garden, and chose the appropriate down spout. I knew I'd have to dig deep and add gravel and lots of other stuff, so I got to digging. Yesterday I dumped half a bucket of water in the hole just to empty it out. It soaked in! Even the little bit that didn't go in immediately soaked in within a few minutes! So I have real soil under the band of construction-crap-clay-and-rocks-backfill!
And lots of worms!
Wheeeee!
