Hoping someone can give me some insight why I continue to kill my banana palms. I have now killed 4 out of 5 that I have planted. I planted an 5 foot ice cream in march of 2008 and it was doing super on the east side of the house will full sun until about 1pm. It was pushing new leaves every 3 days or so. By june/july it was down to new leaves every 5-6 day. In august is stopped sending out new leaves and the top and stalk got all mushy and fell over. fast forward to April 2009. I planted 4 new ones(ranging from 2-5ft). 1 ice cream, 1 red, and two other kinds I cant remember. 2 of the 4 were on that same east side area of the house, one was by the pool under a few queen plams and the red was under a big tree with lots of shade. This time I used the fish elmulsion weekly but the lack of new leaves started around the same time of year after all were doing great with tons of new growth in april and may. 1 of the 4 is still kicking but it is putting out a new leaf about once every 2 weeks. What am I doing wrong? Why do I always kill all my favorite plants? :(
