We have zoysia but lives in Va. Looking at your grass it is the dogs urine that is doing it.Zoysias are very hardy as far as drought but pet urine will amage them. /we have a neighbor who has a dog and I get very upset if he urinate on our grass. Belle

Two things will leave round dead spots in grass...Chinch bugs and pets. The rule of thumb for watering is 1inch per week, after the plant is established. Your grass is not getting too much sun...zoysia is used on golf courses and very little shade is present there. Check out this link on Chinch Bugs: http://pmo.umext.maine.edu/factsht/chinch.htm

and this on El Toro grass: http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2006/Sep/08/il/FP6...

Hope this helps
