There have been several explanations about German irises on this forum so I thought
it would be good to point out where the gardeners who do not live and breathe irises
get that term.
I just received a mailer from Spring Hill with about a half dozen ads for Iris germanica
such as "Decadence German Iris", "Megabucks German Iris", "Reblooming German
Iris Mix" and even Batik, Baboon Bottom and Tiger Honey Zebra Iris. They even
italicize Iris germanica to make it more impressive.
That is how the term circulates. I bought my first irises from Spring Hill and was proud
of my German irises.
