| Hi Marleneann. Yes i grow epis too. I've got about a dozen different colours but am still waiting for flowers. I have an old one in a tub that used to be my Mum's but that hasn't flowered the last couple of years and there's no buds on this year yet.Do you think that i might be doing something wrong? | Hi Marlenann and Colleen. These are great plants that thrive on neglect! Ours are mostly grown in baskets hanging in trees. We have one that grows up a crepe myrtle. That one has not flowered as yet. Most of our plants came from my Great Aunt's garden on the coast here at Narabeen (pretty ruggard). I am not up on their names, but pretty sure a quick Google or search of the archives here will come up with something. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Thanks Wayne for the pictures. They are beautiful flowers.
Colleen I am new at growing these plants but I have been told they like morning sun and shade from the hot afternoon sun.
If you would like to see a page on my website I made for my Epi's...here is the link

| Swapsville Steve! :)
Please.
BTW, one of your Dahlias 'TS' shot up this weekend.
That old 'Barbara Williams' is a slow poke. Give her until late summer...
I will send a replacement if necessary.

| Sure can Wayne. How does 1.5 metres sound? It is probably the most frustrating but beautiful flower. I watch the buds, watch the opening, smell the perfume, observe the beauty, watch it fade all in 24 hours. Imagine growing a cv that stayed open for a week or two!
Dmail me.
Barbara sure is a slow poke. I can't wait 'til late summer for the bloom. The others, ts included, are well under way.
Have noticed that my purple is slow as well. Maybe a Thesis to write here. Purple = slow.

| Thanks Marlene. I ended up potting the lot into hanging baskets and hanging them in a wattle tree up the back. I'm not sure if all the cuttings were of the same variety or not, so it will be nice if they throw a few different colours. |

| Hello all. I love the epi flowers and will be posting mine as they open. Sue that is definitely an epi you have there. Its not much good trying to find names for the flowers unless you are a real expert as there are so many hybrids that look similar. I am watching my buds daily and hoping for around 50 to bloom this year.
Marleneann, if you look through the orchid cactus threads, there is one about that blue/pink flower.

| These plants are growing in moss baskets. They dry out pretty fast, which is good. The red one above I saw in a tall pot (1m) and was in total bloom, countless flowers! Really looked like a red waterfall, or lava flow... Stunning!
I am thinking that this plant would look great spilling over a rock wall. |

| Gosh, I wish...
Sorry Marleneann. Don't know.
This little "Rhip" has me wondering why I manage the "plant orphanage"?
All day it sits back relaxing in an Adirondack chair, sipping something long and strong...
I would love to do the same, but not with a kelp base! :)
Any clues on the name please?
We were lucky with the two chairs...
One of Flora's boys knocked them up from packing cases years back as a school project c 1960. They were positioned on the east facing verandah when we moved in twelve years ago. Comfortable old slouches, perfect for a sit back, rest after a days work in the garden.
The Californian "feel" lets me "rip" with Rhipsaladoxis, Epiphyllums and Zygos galore! :)
Love the "California Dreaming" on our own front verandah now...
The paint colour...
"Agapanthus"... :)
Seriously in search of authentic retro cement "Pink Flamingos" for accent! :)

| Marlene, my epi flowers usually last up to a week or more especially if it's cold like now.
Wayne , love the rhipsalidopsis. Mine are nearly out. Orange, red and pink. lovely things. make a show after the zygos are done. I have no idea as to the names of any rhips. The relaxing sounds great , but give me a nice cuppa. green tea please. Going down to look at epis . They are slow in the colder weather. Love to tease me. |
