| Let's hear your preference, I'm impartial to gas cooktops, but what are the trend? Let's vote. |

| would prefer electric. It's safer, i think. And the price of gas changes all the time, so... electric cooktops' better. |

| This old dog prefers electric. Last gas unit we had would blow out on very low when the A/C came on, but it was a "builders special" Hotpoint in 1970. |

| I would have put in a gas cooktop when we built this house, but it would have to be propane as we don't have natural gas lines in our rural area. So I'm still electric. |

| I understand Propane price has gone up the roof! In that case electric is more practical. Thank you Elaine for you response. |

| Natural Gas, if you're on a gas line. Still relatively cheap, and much easier to control the temps. Important when you're doing a delicate french sauce. |

| Definitely gas. Much more responsive - quicker to raise & lower the temps. In my part of the country, much cheaper.
Interesting though, while I prefer I gas cooktop, I do like electric ovens. My duel fuel range has exactly what I want - gas cooktop/electric ovens.

Sorry to be late to the party, but I vote GAS! We have natural gas, and I grew up learning to cook on natural gas as well. When I was single in an apartment, then newly married, I cooked on electric. I still prefer gas -- I find it much easier to control the temperature. When you turn a gas burner off . . . it’s off! An electric burner is still hot and continues to cook unless you move the pot off the burner.
Of course, YMMV.

| We use propane. I love it and would have to relearn or quit cooking if it was electric. I agree with Marilee on the instant off when the burner is turned off. Good feature for me.
For canning the electric would probably be easier to manage. I do have to be careful when the a/c cuts on or the ceiling fan is on. It doesn't blow out but the flames will flutter causing irregular temps when canning.
For me another advantage is living in a rural area, we loose power pretty often and I can still cook.
Put me down for gas, Kim. Happy Thanksgiving all... |
