I really enjoyed your article as well- nice descriptions of vines, leaves and flowers.
Nothing makes me happier than a day in a remote jungle collecting seeds, seeing the wildlife and interesting plants!
I developed a fascination for vines when I lived in Liberia W. Africa-
My current garden is over capacity with too many vines!

It's certainly living up to the name "Jungle Heights".
I've been starting the Fall trimming and thinning..wow..mountains of trimmings, and hasn't dented a thing. Vines have run amock, encircling the entire garden. The Hawaaiin wood rose has covered the green house and surrounding trees & fence, so you can imagine my dilemna as it is a winter bloomer, and it's finally reached maturity for blooms.
You should come and visit. Your friend at Carlton House has to share you though so you can stay a night.

Nice article! I love vines too! & you are right about P. alata. There is a lot of variation in the plant.
Didn't Baudelaire spend some time on Reunion?

I do not know about Beaudelaire on Reunion but he did travel in the area so may have dropped by.
Yes, alata can be very variable
