My shower isn't completely done yet but, I wanted to show you guys the progress.
I found two beautiful closet doors for $25 bucks at the flea market. And I thought AHAH shower sides. I don't have a DH but, I do have a wonderful carpenter friend who is willing to put together my ideas. So, I found a picture of an arbor I liked and asked him to build it and put the doors in the sides instead of lattice. We have that much done, and it looks beautiful! Still working on ideas to enclose the back without totally blocking the view out the window. Probably not cool to look out the window and see somone showering... Although I shower out there all the time because I live alone. I was thinking maybe something bamboo like or maybe just a frosty shower curtain that would let light through but can't see through.
Still thinking about that one!

This is my friend Chad working on the doors. I stained them with oil base cedar tint stain. The rest is made with treated lumber and I will stain that too, but it has to be real dry before you do.

One thing led to another... I had been wanting to rock the foundation (I have one side done.) But, the back it always last! lol!! So I got inspired to do the rock work and of course my poor old house is peeling so bad so I started scraping and painting ... whooo! Lot of work! I painted it once in 95 and said I would never do it again, but can't afford new siding so here I go again!

Beautiful job. I love your stone work. I wanted to do the same thing with my foundation, but my husband says that the stone will stick out too far. I am now thinking about painting or stenciling stone onto the foundation. My problem isn't coming up with ideas, it is following through with them. lol

Those doors are beautiful . I'd be scared to death to use them outside .
Good looking friend too , lucky to have someone to help you put things together .
I see shower doors on Craigs list all the time for free . Maybe you can find one and use it on the back . I have two of them and now I know what I can do with them . Shower doors , Shower !!! Duh .
I used them originaly to make a cold frame and now just laying around .
I repeat , I love those doors . digger

Thanks you guys! Digger I'm going to take the closet door out for the winter. There is just 4 screws holding in each door. Hopefully then they will last longer. I have one coat of oil base sealer and will put a couple more when I have time. But, they will be put away soon anyway. We are having a beautiful fall here. I think it's been warmer than it was in July!!

Love a shower outside!!!

Im still searching fot that tub to go outdoors..

I love your shower but plz becareful around that glass, make sure you don't slip and then hit the glass.. I see your shower looks real wide so its not like you will be up near the glass.. I would think if for closet doors it would be thinner glass than shower door glass... Either way just be careful... plz...

Sorry that was my grandmother coming out in me.. I could hear her saying JAN dont run with those scissors.. lol..

JAN I promise I won't run with scissors and will be careful around the glass!
My thought for the tub area is when I get enough flower and shrubs around the tub I can take the windows out ;)

If they are hardy in your area, get a viburnum . They have some heavenly scented ones Judii and mohawk and marissi and my favorite , but the old timers just kicked in I can't remember . Oh , yeah , Korean spice . The only problem is , They don't bloom that long . Put lots of pots in there , that way you can have something blooming all the time . digger

Thanks Digger, I will check those out, but very few choices for winter hardy plants as I am in northern WI. I don't trust buying perennials unless they are zone 3.
I am so anxious to plant some things around my little FL home. I can really go wild down there!! I still have a hard time believing I own it... it has been a dream for so long. (well me and the bank) I will post pics of that later... I'm taking a leave of absence from my job for ONE WHOLE MONTH!! in Nov. to go down there and work on it and get it in shape.
Oh! and thanks for the tip on marine poly for the shower, that is an excellent idea! :-)

I second Digger; I am one jealous woman! That is beautiful. Kudos to Chad for great work. May I offer a suggestion for the glass? Film them with clear window film and in the unlikely event of a crash, the glass won't shatter everywhere. Sure wish I could run into some doors that pretty...

Digger, my FL place is on Pine Island. It's on the gulf side just north of Fort Myers. I went there on vacation in 2001 and LOVED IT! Very quiet and layed back, no beaches just mangrove all around it. Can't take the cold winters anymore. When I retire I will be a snowbird.

Here is my very first post on Daves and it explains my worry with glass.. :-(
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/915977/

Just promise me you will be careful.. We want you to make it to Fl in one piece..
:-)

Your florida home sounds wonderful and sound like thats just what you need.. I know we had to move from Iowa because I couldnt take the snow and cold anymore.. My RA was horrible at that time, seemed just as I was starting to feel a little better along came winter again!! lol.. So we moved back down South where I was born and raised.. :-) How big is your yard in Fl?

Nanaka, awesome doors! Great shower. You are a hard working girl. Love the new paint job on the house and those stones are fantastic! That marine poly is a great idea.
I am hoping some day to become a snow bird. Hate, hate, hate these bitter cold Wisconsin winters. It gets harder and harder to handle as I get older.

Hard to believe but at 50 degrees in Rockport , if the wind is blowing off the water , it can be bitter . Year b4 last , i put on a down parka , and wrapped up with a down comforter to stand on the porch and smoke a cigarette . Nothing showing but a hole in front of my mouth to puff

Thanks Staceysmom! I feel the same way about winter!
Dirt ... I can't call you dirt, Jan Thanks for the concern, I read the old thread and understand your fear of glass. I will be very very very careful! Of course you understand this isn't an area I run through... (unless someone is chasing me!) lol!!! Its a place where I have solitude and meditate.
I had a similar story with a coffee can that required 16 stitches, so I'm scared of coffee cans. go figure??

I guess I live in Georgia . Came over here 18 yrs. ago to vacation and do some gold panning after a divorce, and met dh in the river . Married him 13 mos later . He was close to retirement from G M and couldn't just quit so we bought property here . Then got so much stuff , it was impossible to sell out in a short time + his kids were here . My son was in Tex . I had a house in Ark . Sold that a few mos. ago . We go to Tex every winter to be close to my boy , who owns a fishing place for weekends on the coast . I bought two lots across the street and this winter will put a mobile home on that . We'll have our own place when we go there , In the past , we took over his place and he came down from Austin , where he lives ,to visit and fish the coast .
Phewwww, thats the story . digger

Me too , Jan, but I personally prefer "Dirt" . There is something so different about it .
Is Gulf Coast, Miss . a town or just a location ? We're going to come down thru Mobile . We cut down a coupla years ago and I couldn't believe how the hurricane had changed the coast . Made me want to cry , it was so torn up . I missed the old homes on the north side of hwy 90. all gone now , how sad . That last one did more damage than all of them in the last 150 years .
Nanaka , You have inspired me to build a shower too ! Won't I look sexy showering with 50 lbs overweight and at my age , if i lose it, I'll be hanging in wrinkles . I have to laugh just thinking about , it but I'm gonna do it .
When do you retire ? from what job ? How long till Florida , and when do you start your month off ? Not nosey , just interested . digger

Digger~ yes very different.. I think most thought I was a guy when I first came to Daves because of my nickname on here.. lol..
I live a few miles from Hwy 90 On the Ms side about maybe 13 miles before the Ala state line.. So not very far from Mobile as a matter of fact my DH works in Mobile.. We miss the old homes every day.. Old and new Katrina didn't care she took them all.. :-( Driving down beach blvd in Pascagoula you see they are starting to rebuild some houses. But there are still places where just the cement slabs remain.. :-( When will you be coming thru my neck of the woods? If you are on your way to TX then you prob gonna be on II0 right?

Nanaka-- There is a casino/bingo/entertainment complex being built right now near Dothan Alabama. I looked on mapquest and Pine Island is like 80 miles or so from that. Anyway... On your way down to Florida, I would be happy to let you shop my "treasure pile" for goodies for you place.DH would love it if someone took everything (even though he uses a lot of the "crap I drag home".I have a few sets of shower doors that would look great hung saloon door style on your shower. Thank you kchild for your generous offer! How fun to shop somone elses junk pile! But, I'm flying down and won't be able to stop by. Digger, I can't believe you can stay off DG that long!! You better invest in that laptop!

This is a bit off subject but, I haven't been online for a few days because I just had my first couch surfing guest. What fun! Check it out; couchsurfing.com... when I 1st looked at it I thought "staying with total strangers!! way to scary" But, I looked around and sent a few emails to women over 40 and decided it looked pretty safe. I just got my 1st cs request last Sat. and on Sun. Michel from Quebec showed up on a motorbike! He was a gem... intelligent, funny, charming and spoke beautiful french. The weather turned miserable here on Mon so he stayed an extra day, we went out for pizza and a movie and stayed up half the night talking. I am now very anxious to go somewhere and use this way to stay with locals. As you stay with people you get references and that makes others feel ok to host you...so I now will have my 1st reference. Anyway if you love to travel you should take a look, people are actually traveling all over the world with this.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Sundownr, I have finally drained hoses and put all my outside stuff to bed... hated to have to do it, but this IS WISCONSIN! LOL!
Thank you for your concern Sun, & Digger, about the couchsurfing, I will be very very very careful! I haven't stayed with anyone else yet.. but my first guest, Michel is coming down to FL to visit me.

I'm flying down to Fort Myers Nov 1 and staying for a whole month. yeaaaahhhhh!!!! So very excited! I won't have internet down there either Digger so will have to go to the library to go online. I will post a pic of my little one bed, one bath trailer before I go. It will be my biggest trash to treasure yet! I'm planning on painting, cleaning, and fixing stuff up.
Might try the brownbagging on the bedroom floor, will see... cuz I also want time for fun of course.

I bought this little place last March and only had a couple of days down there. So I breifly met the neighbors... but otherwise know no one! should be an adventure! I'm planning on renting a car for a week and then try to buy an older car while I'm down there... there's lots of thing "up in the air" ...

wish me luck!
