I need help with identifying a vine. I don't have a picture, however, I did stumble on this website via a search. The closest I found was the Ipomoea Purpurea. This vine looks very similar. From the picture I cannot tell if it is the same. I was in Indiana and came across a lil' ole lady working in her garden. I fell deeply in love with this huge vine with heart shaped leaves. The stem is purple and the leaves had definate purple veins with dark green leaf. There were bean pods everywhere and I ask her if I could have some. She called it 'Jack in the bean stalk'. I planted some and it came up but was eventually extenguished by the heat of summer. I still have some seeds left (black with a white stipe down the side about the size of a large kernal of corn). I created a new bed and will try again this fall, however, I have only a few seeds left. Does anyone have any idea what the name is so I can get more seeds? It also put out small pinkish flowers prior to making the pods. I am sure it is a perenial in cooler zones but if I can have it 8 mo. out of the year, I will be happy!
I would agree that it's probably Hyacinth bean vine. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/890/ Your description of the seeds & seed pods does not fit Ipomoea, but it sounds very much like the hyacinth bean, and the description of the leaves and stems sounds like a match for it as well.
