    Nice article. I think your metallic pots look great. I'm doing that to some plastic pots this fall.

    Now let's talk about foam pots.
    I have 2 of these supersized pots that are made from foam and are huge- 3 ft across.
    The only damage done to them was by the weedwacker!

    We live in zone 5. Lots of freezing and thawing. Last year the foam pots didn't get put in the shed...one of those undone things on honey's to-do list... and they were filled with soil and ice- and never cracked. My dtr even sat on one when it was filled with ice and it didn't crack. I asked he not to do that again!

    This year I confidently cut off the bottom and put a small tree in there for all the winters to come. See pic.

    Wonderful! I've got one of those pots too and we don't get the extreme temps that you do, but mine has held up beautifully for several years now.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences with these pots. There are many of them out there now and I'm sure folks have been wondering about how to protect them also.
