This is this year's experimentation. Now I have to figure out what I'm going to make. Most of the yarn is sock weight and slightly heavier... maybe a fairisle sweater???

Those colors would make a gorgeous fairisle. Nice job...

How did you dye the yarn?

Hi ViolaAnn!
Most of the yarns are dyed with plants I've found growing along the sides of roads (black eyed susan, Queen Anne's Lace, bindweed), others are with purchased dried roots. In this picture, from left to right:

madder root =orangy
avocado pits-=pinkish red
queen anne's lace = yellow
madder exhaust (leftover dye) = pale peach
alkanet root = grey
blackberries = purple
oak galls = brownish
easter egg dyes = green

You should see the pile of yarn in my study! I have no idea what I'm going to do with it all! What you are seeing is the first batch!
A good book on dying with found or grown plants is "Wild Color" by Jenny Dean. It's out of print, I understand, but folks are working hard to get another printing in the works. I also found a lot of good ideas on http://www.ravelry.com under the "Plants to Dye For" forum.

all of the yarn in this picture was dyed with cochineal bugs - makes a terrific pink, doesn't it!!!

Those are just beautiful. You could place an ad in Classified or sell the extras on Marketplace. I bet someone would love to have the extras.
