I have lost some more seedlings (mostly Canary Island Date Palms which nothing seems to be able to kill around here). After digging up the roots I discovered every one of them had these nasty little guys attached to the roots. I noticed that my new Rhodesian Ridgeback pup could smell more in the piles of dirt I made, and he sifted through them picking out LOTS that were hidden and treating them like they were a delicacy. They were quite deep in my opinion: like 2+ feet down.
Would anyone venture to guess: were these killing the palms or feeding on something already dying? Nothing else has ever killed this variety here...and what can I do about them if they are a problem?
