I've started harvesting my mari's. So far I have a shoebox full! I was thinking of getting a pack of knee high stockings at the dollar store, filling them then hanging them in the basement for a few weeks to make sure all are thoroughly dried. After they dry is it ok to just leave them in the stockings or should I put them into paper envelopes? I'm pulling just the seeds out of the flower head, not harvesting the entire flower.

the stockings would work just fine for drying your seeds, but once they dry they should be stored in an airtight container to prevent them from re-absorbing moisture. If you have a bunch of one kind, you could place a paper towel in the bottom of a big plastic Glad/Ziploc container with a tight fitting lid, or whatever size would comfortably hold them, and dump the seeds in. I keep mine in envelopes in an air tight tin. Moisture is the enemy in seed storage.

Good advise from my buddy Moon. I personally store all seed in zip lock bags in the freezer after they are dry. Either way will work.

I have the most recent ones spread out on a cardboard lid to dry.

But doesn't the plastic ziplock sweat and cause moisture?

I poked lots of holes in the bag with a quilters pin for that reason, a regular stick pin or even sewing needle would have worked better cause when you move the bag seeds fall out
