THREE YEARS AGO I PLANTED A BANANA PLANT IN MY FRONT FLOWER BED. SINCE THEN IT HAS COME BACK EVERY YEAR GETTING BIGGER THAN THE YEAR BEFORE!!
I LIVE IN WHAT THEY SAY IS ZONE 6, SO YOU CAN IMAGINE MY SURPRIZE. I WOULD LIKE TO DIVIDE IT BUT I AM AFRAID I WILL KILL IT IF I DIG IT UP AT THE WRONG TIME. IT HAS SEVERAL PUPS AND I WOULD LOVE TO PUT SOME AROUND THE POOL. CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH MY QUANDRY? I HAVE NEVER TAKEN IT OUT OF THE GROUND AND WE DO GET A LOT OF ICE IN THE WINTER BUT IT JUST KEEPS COMING BACK EVERY YEAR
I dig and divide mine in the fall, when I bring them inside. See the article for how-to photos on removing pups... I think it's easier to see when you're doing (especially to try to get a few roots with each pup) when you're digging up the whole plant, but you may be able to slice pups off from the side also.
