Hello!

I am writing today because my recently acquired fiddleleaf fig tree is coming down with something I cannot identify! I am attaching representative pictures of it. There are these brown DRY spots forming, sometimes around the edge and sometimes in little circles and sometimes in zig-zag lines along veins of the leaves. There are no signs of rust on the bottom side of the leaves and no aphids or any other visible bugs. I don't think it's leafminers either because the zig-zag lines do not get bigger as they go??

PLEASE HELP! I think it's spreading throughout the tree and I don't know what to do!!!

Thank you so much - I really love this tree and would love to live with it for many many years to come. :'-(

PatchesNBrownie, it looks like more than one type of damage, but need a little more info. Is it in a container; how big is it ;can you take a picture of the whole tree? Water schedule and fertilizer?

Hi, thank you so much for replying!

It is in a 14" plastic round container with Miracle Grow "moister control" soil. It has Miracle Grow in it, I think that's plant food (=fertilizer)? It is about 4 feet tall, and I just bought it last month. I water it maybe once a week, I've read that it's very bad to over-water these guys.

THANK YOU AGAIN for your help!!!

It actually looks pretty good. Some of the damage appears to just be transplant shock...a little tip browning. A little roughed up from being transplanted...the split leaf, and maybe at some point a bug or two...nothing serious.
They don't want to be really wet, but don't let it dry out completely. Stick your finger down in the soil and if you don't feel moisture, water it. They are pretty easy to care for.

It may rebel a bit when you bring it in for the winter. Put it by the brightest window and keep it out of drafts.

I would just watch it carefully and get it ready to come inside. The damage really looks like transport and transplant damage. Have you seen any bugs on it?

No I have not seen any bugs on it, and I have checked every single leaf and all the stems! I am in love with this plant - so pretty.

It was initially outside in NYC but I brought it in about 2 weeks ago. I think and hope you are right because I really really love this tree! I just was not sure if it was simple transplant damage, because I see little holes in the middle of the leaves sometimes I don't know if there is a leafminer or something involved.

I will keep a watchful eye on it... THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help!

I have had my Fiddle leaf for a number of years. It is doing very well, despite the damage from weather, critters and clumsiness...grin I am gonna post a few pics so you can compare and also to reassure...
