I love this wicker planter. Found it at a yard sale also, $3.00. What color do you think I should paint it? My house is gray. I am going to put it on the covered deck. Don't think it needs to set out in the 'elements'.

What a buy! I'm partial to periwinkle blue or forest green... but that's just me. The blue has been inspired by my friend Fishknees on the SW Gardening forum... in this pic you can see how beautiful all of her blue sets off the plants... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6374221

I think a blue would look good up against the gray. I will have to think what to plant in it. I may have to hold off planting until spring. Thank you

I would do it in 3 colors of green, seafoam for the body, moss and forest for the trim. But that is just cause I love green... It would look great with its main or trim color in the trim color of your house or if you use the colors of your living room.

GAgirl,
I would choose a color that would enhance the colors in the plants but not out shine or overwhelm the plants. I think a more earthy type color - taupe, sand or soft green, something like that. Also a satin or matte finished paint. To make it a bit zippier you could do the edge another color. Just a thought.
Have fun with your treasures. :-)

Good afternoon, well I reckon it would look great in black, black looks great against grey walls and the colour of the plants would look wonderful hanging over the darker colour.
But just my opinion, I am not really into the paler colours, they just blend in to much for me lol. I'm with froghollow lady, it is nice to stand out, but I don't do green at all that and orange are my least favourite colours.
have fun with it, I am sure it will be nice in what ever colour you decide on.

That's true. All great ideas, but I will wind up painting it the color I like. I am having a tough time deciding where to put it. That will influence what color I use. I am considering putting it inside now. I am terrible at decisions, my husband tells me that all the time.

I love it!! It POPS! When I picked it out, I think it was called Fire engine red. Well the guy came to paint it and I was not here. Let me tell you, when I drove up in my driveway and saw a fushia pink door, I about choked!!
Went back to the paint store and complained, and they tried to tell me that was what I picked out. Oh no, they pulled the ticket and right there in black and white...fire engine red on front door. HA, they had to repaint it.

I was thinking maybe burgundy would look nice with your grey...here's a photo of a house I was at recently with that color scheme. I liked it so much I had to take this picture. Of course, the white trim sets it off nicely, too. My grandma had some wicker baskets kinda that shape that she repainted white every spring and put her sansiverias in to summer on the front porch.

“I am terrible at decisions, my husband tells me that all the time.” People who have trouble making decisions usually have many many fabulous ideas (just like you). When you think of so many good decisions, it's hard to decide on the best decision! I saw a pretty gray house once and the accent color was mustard. They used the mustard color in various places (front door, plants etc). Ideas: paint the wicker the same as the main color of your house (gray) and plant red flowers (geraniums) inside the wicket basket to go with the accent color of red you have chosen. Or paint the wicker red and plant gray flowers in it (some sedum types of plants are gray). Or if you have white trim, paint the wicker white and plant red and gray plants in it. See--I can't make my mind up either. Or paint it a different color every spring!

So true, i like al the ideas and of course, still haven't made a decision, mostly because I can't decide where to put it.I need to decide what I want to plant in it and that will help me decide in or out, and also possibly the color. I can't ever make up my mind either. Thanks for everybody's input.

These wicker planters are meant to be white. White will go with any plants you put in the plus it will look good wherever it is placed.
Very nice planter, worth way more than $3. Is it lined with metal ? It should be with a little drain to keep water from ruining the wicker.
