I have a small patio home and need a small tree for front of my house---maybe 6'-8' high and not too wide. Full sun most of day. Please, not a crepe myrtle!

What about one of those crooked filbert - hazel nut trees. Harry Lauder's Walking stick (I think).
I have one, needs trimming this winter. I think I have more to do this winter than I did in the summer!!!
But I saw one over at the Kentucky University Hospital where it was all trimmed up, and it was really sharp looking!

You can always use a Dwarf Holly. I would recommend planting a shrub and pruning it like a tree. Larger varieties of Indian Hawthorn are nice and easy.
