Would you believe... my husband keeps asking me to hem his pants SHORTER. With a prosthetic, when the pant legs are too long he can trip. The problem is that he has lost so much weight, he wears suspenders and his pants "slip south". Today I hemmed a pair shorter like he asked and then he put them on... HOLY cow, he had capris! He was not impressed. I was ticked. I told him to wear them and see if his pants slid south and then they were the right length. Geeeez... no wonder I never get caught up. Taking 'em up, let 'em down... !!

I caught him going to wear his brand new navy blue slacks out to mechanic! I took them away from him and wrote "DRESS pants" on all four pockets of his pants. He can't tell me he didn't notice the next time he reaches for a pair of pants! I love him dearly and there are days I could beat him to death with his artificial leg! LOL

she is going to call me Mor Mor which literally translates to mothers mother...should technically be'' far mor'' fathers mother, but every body decided they liked the sound of mor mor better...it is Swedish...my momma's great greats came from Sweden, founded the town of new Sweden Maine...darlin Hubby is going to be "pep" + / or Pepe, he has French Canadian roots...

I got a phone call to set up an interview in Connell, WA. That's only about 30 miles North of my Dad's. I am asking them to see if they can schedule it the Monday before Oregon's interview (which is about 30 miles South of Dad's).

I finally got the rest of the blocks sewn last night and all folded into their envelopes. they will ALL go out on Monday. I am so sorry to be so slow!! This is my LAST swap until I this house is READY to sell and I have a job in WA. Yesterday I sewed like CRAZY. I got the blocks done and then moved on to many of the other sewing projects. I even squeezed in one "extra project". There was a guy advertising that he needed someone to sew on lettering on his Service Dog's vest. As soon as my husband wakes up (he drove all night), I'll be able to finish hemming his slacks.

When I was in WA last, my sister drug out all of her hemming to do AND my Dad's new pants. I hemmed at least a dozen pair of pants that trip. Anyone else the family sewstress??

What a beautiful granddaughter Thunder--love her hair!!! I also like the name you will be called--let mine decided on what to call me but other grandparents had their ideas of what they wanted to be called. Oh well, so much for names--it is what they come up with that means the most to me. I am Grandma and the late grandfather was pepum. Only they know where that came from.

My blocks will be in tomorrows mail--between my Mom, daughter's car not working and having to be towed 100 miles to a Subaru dealer, and then my being with out a car for almost a week--didn't make it to the post office. I like walking but not that far--sorry ladies.

Pat, I am the family seamstress with my group. Always had to hem my late hubby's pants (lone leg longer then the other), daughter very tall, etc. Fun at time but it doesn't take much to be overwhelming!!!!

Nice cool day here today and have a pot of soup on the stove. Hummm, can hardly wait.

Ya, I'm not buying that "you do it better" either!! LOL... my nephew once split his pants wide open and brushed off the offer to have the babysitter fix them "cuz Aunt Pat'll do it"!!

Years ago a chiropractor friend of mine (when my Ex was in Chiro school) I discovered my friend had opened a seam of his slacks at work. He stood behind the changed curtain while I mended his pants by hand!

She sells the fusible interfacing all printed with the design for about $15.00.
You might try that. The package makes 18 squares. The wall hanging calls for 16 squares.

Elen - did you clear your cache (temp internet files) and refresh?
It's possible that page could have been temporarily "down" in the "printer friendly" section.
You can simply highlight the section you want, and "print selection" rather than choosing "printer friendly". I know it may possibly sound weird, but "printer friendly" is actually another page, so it could be "down", and "print selection" is an easy option when you can't go further...

Hello Elen!
Eleanor Burns' patterns are not usually found on the internet as a free download, and I do not have this particular book. I went onto her website and looked under 'Books', and this book has quite a few of her patterns, along with the American Beauty and the New York Beauty. Her books are easy to understand, so I looked up a couple of sites that you can order the book that has the patterns. The first one is the book or DVD that has this pattern in it. The 2nd one is a listing of her books that are available from her website and the last one is the page from Amazon that offers it for under $20 (US funds)...

My blocks went out earlier this week, ya'all should be receiving them any day now!

This will be my last swap for a while. I start a new job Nov 9 in Washington, about an hour away from my family. I get more excited about it everytime I think of it! They called yesterday and offered me the job. I will give my current employer the notice on Wednesday when I am back to work. I feel bad for them... but not enough to turn down a great job that pays 50% more AND provides me the hours I need towards my licensure in WA.

The job offer wasn't IN the town we wanted, but as my son so accurately pointed out, ONE hour away beat 7 hours!

Our home is not ready for sale, my husband will stay behind and get it ready. I hope to find a "room to rent" for a month or two while our house finishes up. I'm praying for a SPEEDY sale and a decent sale price.

Congrats on the job and good luck on the house sale! That's alot of task for taking on all at one time. Just the new job is enough in itself; finding a place to stay, getting acquainted with new people and surroundings..(finding the bathrooms), parking, etc. But at least you don't have that drive! An hour is more than enough, especially in bad weather. Great pay raise, hope you enjoy your new job!

Kathy

PS.. it's amazing how much you didn't know you had when it comes time to move... LOL

That is just fantastic news about the job. One you like and continue your education...one that pays more in this economy...just wonderful.

My blocks are sitting in envelopes ready for next week delivery too. I might be late, but darned if Im not ready for about 3 more swaps, without even going to the machine. Of course, if I was thrilled with all those blocks, I would not be pulling up the year ;-)

Everyone have a great weekend.

Pat, got your block on Saturday, it is perfect. It really says Pat to me.

You are responsible for helping me to see the possibilties of a RWB quilt. Like I said in my letter; I love Red, Cream, and Blue, those are my house colors, but for some reason I never thought of a quilt in those colors. . . ????

Congratulations on the new job, that is really wonderful, lots of work ahead, but with a great end in sight. Way to go!

Ladies, you have nothing to be ashamed of. . . I sent 2 envelopes to Thunder in this swap and forgot BOTH times.

We are actually having some sunshine this morning, so I am heading out to the gardens for fall clean-up for a couple of hours before work.

this is the 1st one I saved from QCache, when I got into Thunder's Patriotic block project... Although I couldn't use it for that one, for some reason it just kept calling me, until I saved and copied it out to my folder upstairs... Now I just need to find the correct shades of calicos... and it will be mine, all mine... Bwaa Haa Haa Ha!! No Hubby allowed!!!! LOL

had an "interesting day" at work, got home to a bunch of junk mail, and a note on the door from Purolator Courier. Seems my DH has a letter from someone. Checked online and found it's from The Gov't!! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!
(no, I'm not nuts!) It's his Birth Certificate!!! Now he can get his other ID and prove he's a Canadian Citizen (which he has been, from birth!)
In among all the excitement, I forgot to check the "junk mail" and found a very special airmail from Marion!!
Your block is beautiful! I love it, and the letter is so very telling about you.

well, now he can get his provincial health coverage, and his Social Insurance Card, which also means he can get his passport to go to the States when he wants to.
It all hinged on him getting someone of a professional career (in good standing) to sign that they've known him for 2 years. Our neighbour's a nurse (for 35 yrs) and we've known her for 3 years. To think - we could have done this 1 yr ago!
Ah well, it's done now, and the doors have opened up for him lol

My daughter and I tried to get to the post office by 8 tonight for last pick up, Of all things, they have changed it to 7. Well mine are at the post office. The one to Canada I sent as fast as I could...bar overnight kinda stuff. This wraps up the first phase of my block swap, I failed on the note too. I hope you like the block tho, I did learn alot, and that was fun. Thanks for sticking with me. Im afraid with the FL/Ga game and halloweeen, I passed even my own 'that is final' deadline.

There is an extra little square in mine...long story, but that is what I wanted to do my block out first, then I got backed up on the blue and signing. Anyway...I got it figured out and this is what Im using for the ppl. that just joined, ordered more.
All you can do with it is make a 9 patch, with it included, or throw it out...I just had to put it in.

I did acknowledge each of them as I got them. If you have not received an acknowledgement, I have not received it. I hope by now EVERYONE has received the blocks I sent out about 2 weeks ago.

We are taking one pickup load to our new home in WA on Friday. I am taking my clothes, our bed and 4 of "everything", plates, bowls, silverware, 2 cooking pans, my computer & chair AND my sewing machine and serger, a folding sewing table!! LOL... seriously, how sad is that? My DH will have to return and continue to work on our house.

I am thinking about taking a picture of each and putting it in an album with each of your letters. While I want to make something of the blocks I want them to all go with the letters that explain who you are and why you choose what you did. This was the best I could think of. Pam, I was reading on a quilting site last week: There are no 'real' mistakes... just a subconcious effort toward Creativity... LOL
Think that would cover it, right????
If you wouldn't have said anything, would the others have noticed or was your pattern definitely a directional one? Who was it that used to say "I meant to do that..." (besides me, of course..) My hubby hears me say that all the time, in order to cover my behind!

according to Amish tradition - when you quilt, you must have at least one mistake. To attempt perfection is to attempt to be like God, and that's just not possible!

Being part amish (way, way, way back...) I must have heard that somewhere...
So, I took it to heart, and nothing I do is quite perfect LOL

Good morning everyone. I found this in a newsletter I get from a Quilt shop in Texas (will go back and get name) and could not resist posting it here. Does it describe any of us? LOL

Ok, this was in my email newsletter from Stitchin Heaven.

Philosophy of Housecleaning!

I don't do windows because ... I love birds and don't want one to run into a clean window and get hurt.

I don't wax floors because ... I am terrified a guest will slip and get hurt then I'll feel terrible ( plus they may sue me.)

I don't mind the dust bunnies because ... They are very good company, I have named most of them, and they agree with everything I say.

I don't disturb cobwebs because ... I want every creature to have a home of their own.

I don't Spring Clean because ... I love all the seasons and don't want the others to get jealous.

I don't pull weeds in the garden because ... I don't want to get in God's way, HE is an excellent designer!

I don't put things away because ... My husband will never be able to find them again.

I don't do gourmet meals when I entertain because ... I don't want my guests to stress out over what to make when they invite me over for dinner.

I don't iron because ... I choose to believe them when they say "Permanent Press".

I don't stress much on anything because ... "A Type" personalities die young and I want to stick around and become a wrinkled up crusty ol' woman!!!!

REMEMBER . . . A clean house is a sign of a broken computer.

A clean house means you don't have...
sewing to do, kids at home, a new puppy, aren't having any fun!

New puppy is named Stonewall's Black Pepper and I call her (at lot!) Pepper. She is sleeping through the night and chewing on everything including my quilts, throws and lap quilts even though she has more toys than ToysRUS!
I'll send a picture from home when I get there. I had to come in and earn some money for kibble (and more toys).

I hate to say this, but I finally went through my blocks and I am missing blocks from Pam and Susan. Everyone appears to be on the verge of receiving Pam's blocks, and I expect to get hers today or tomorrow. I seem to be the only one who hasn't gotten Susan's block yet.

Susan,

I am so embarrassed!

I got home from work tonight and decided I needed to tear my sewing room apart one more time in search of that block. I knew I hadn't gotten it because I would have remembered the 'something special' you were sending with the block. As I headed up the stairs I saw the envelope from one of the Canadian Lily Societies and decided I needed to take it upstairs and put it away. . . it had been laying on the stairstep for 3 weeks now!

I looked at the return address to see which one of the societies it was from so I could put it in the right file. Needless to say. . .it was YOUR envelope and not from a Lily Society!

So . . . .the lost has been found and you will not have to sew me another one.

The block is so beautiful and so is the letter and picture of you and your DH. Thank You.

Of course after apologizing for being curious. I told her about the swaps and now she doesn't but them in the box but brings them to my door. She gets as excited as I do when they come. Wish it hadn't been so long ago as I would love to make something with all those beautiful color. I want ot reach out and stroke the fabric. All the jewel tones, well, you can tell I love it.

Thanks, too, for the extra pieces of fabric. I can see we would be picking the same things for our stash if we went shopping together. Love the colors and it will not be hard to find somethng to use them for.

That hoffman fabric was a joy to sew on...Im going to order one of the blue and greens from this years challenge. I wish I could find some more of that 2004 print, can only find the companion fabrics. I was shocked myself at how that fabric just came to life under the ott lite.

cant wait to see this years finished entries...love these colors.

I'm afraid my blocks were pretty simplistic, but that's me - pragmatic and practical (with a little silly thrown in - Me Diva!) LOL

I love quilt fabrics, but really, I guess I'm like my grandma & mom - if you have it, use it. I didn't go out and buy special fabric to make the blocks, but I used colours and patterns I love. And that's the point right? to use fabrics that are "you" even is "you" is el-cheapo LOL

but... that being said, I think the quilt fabric out there is FABULOUS! So much variety, and so much beauty :-)

Yes, flying down Sun & back Thur. Need to check out the new roof going on the sun porch. I'm getting progress pics and it is looking wonderful.

Hope to get my hands dirty out in the yard. Perhaps even get a few hours at the beach. Will spend the evenings doing some applique. Must remember to pack my small Ott light. Light in motels is never good enough for doing hand work.

I guess that's what this signature block swap is about - a mystery quilt lol
I've never done one before, either.
Last night I looked at them all, and most of them match with one other block. Mine is the oddity in that I used "pure" colours, rather than any pattern in most of it. I guess the butterfly is the only thing that's patterned...

I suppose the BOM I'm doing is a mystery quilt, cuz the pieces I get each month are going to be a total mystery lol
I understand that the colours are a little different, but in the same design "family" and they may have a slightly different pattern of block. I'll just have to see on the 15th of Nov.

"Camping out" is good, but only if you're in the great outdoors - a little more difficult when you're in a house! I did it, for 4 months, until we could afford to get our stuff from the moving company. Actually, we got some furniture from family, but I was glad to get rid of it - I'm not a fan of 70's... but we were sure glad to have it when we needed it!!!!

I got heat, electricity, flushing toilets and running showers so all is good! I have had to camp out in a house with NO electricity for a full week in the winter. That was less fun. A winter storm brought down all the power lines, we were without electricity for a full week. I never missed any work, cooked outside on our patio with a coleman stove. I was grateful I had not yet had our baby boy.

I can remember moving at Christmas with a waterbed. When they delivered it, the plastic mattress was frozen from the left over water inside and I had to "thaw" my bed with a hair dryer before trying to fill it with hot water so I could go to bed. It was cold for two days!
That was during my "move 6 x's in 7 years" phase when I was just divorced and looking for jobs. Glad that part of my life is over!

Glad things are coming together for you, Doc. We're with you all the way.

I'm in Seattle for a training. My new employment sent me (so difference than my past job where it was nearly impossible to even get routinue supplies !)

My husband called to say the weather is forecasted to be wet and nasty so he is renting a trailer and bringing a full load of stuff this coming weekend. My grandmother's antique buffet will not fit in the pickup with a canapy on so the trailer is how my Sweetie will move everything. I am spoiled rotten! He is working hard to get our house ready for sale. I can't wait until he is moved into our new house with me.

Pat - Seattle is one of my favorite cities. I love the market & wharf area. And the fresh salmon is wonderful. So glad to hear you are liking the new job. Hopefully you & DH will soon be in 1 location.

hahahaha Easter, eh? well, then I'll have more to celebrate that day!! :-)
Pam, it'll just get here when it gets here! But all the way across from SE to NW (just above Montana, of course) is gonna take some time, cuz they have to go to Auckland FIRST, doncha know? lol
Not with the PO, but I have seen packages sent from Winnipeg, go to Memphis before going to Vancouver, BC lol Go figure, eh?

That was the end of that fabric, but Im going to send off a couple more with the fabric Im using for the ones that just signed up. If the other one gets there...all the better!

Does that sound right to anyone...only 30 cents more to mail to Canada.

and I got all the other blocks. Maybe someone just said "let's see what's in this one..." and liked the block so much they kept it! :-)
I saw, on a quilting site, about a quilt that was made (with love) for a set of parents, put in a box with other stuff, and the quilt (in a plastic bag) was stolen and the rest of the box sent on. Because the recipients weren't expecting the quilt, they never said it didn't come. They thought it was funny that the box wasn't full, but that was all. Now if it's advertised on craigslist or ebay, or otherwise - they hope someone sees it and lets them know...
Isn't that awful?

Anyhoooooooooo I hope everyone has an absolutely Fabulous Friday!!

My sweetie brought a whole lot of stuff this Friday. Not much left in Boise, poor guy is making do with what little is left. I still have lots of unpacking to do but things are improving. I can't wait to get my DH moved permanently home with me in WA. Send a few prayers that he gets that house ready and SOLD quick!
