My assumption has been that development of dahlia tubers would be triggered by day length and as shorter days of fall approach, tubers grow. I do, however, have a couple of questions for you dahlia fans.
1) Is it necessary/desirable to leave stems and foliate outside as long as possible, risking frost and freeze?
2) Will frost (not freezing the roots) encourage/assist healthy & abundant tuber development?
3) Is it better to trim off the dying stems and foliage at the end of the growing season, or let them remain in place until dried and brittle?
TIA
