I will be planting my 40 new irises tomorrow as it is raining today. I live in zone 7A in North Carolina. Should I cover my newly planted irises this winter to prevent frost damage? Or is there something else I should do to help my late planting of irises to surive their first winter?
This is only my second winter living in this state so I am not too familiar with their winters. They are definetly more mild than where I lived in Michigan. It has been in the low 50's to mid/upper 40's at night. However, checking on a 10 day forecast it looks they are predicting 36*- 37*F for next weekend. I am sure within the next 2-3 weeks we will get our first frost.
Thanks,
Danielle
