This is my first year having a garden and canning...I love both!! :-D

1. Yesterday I went to the orchard and bought 3 bushels of apples for canning applesauce. It dawned on me that apples give off ethylene gas, so I needing to know if ethylene gas from apples is combustible or flammable? Is there any danger in storing apples near a furnace? I am planning on building a root cellar in my basement, but I currently do not have ventilation down stairs.

2. I was surprised, when I looked at the list of forums here on Dave's Garden, to find that there is not a "Root Cellar" forum, but then I thought maybe it is so simple that there wouldn't be much to talk about on it. So...where do I go on here to ask questions about setting up a root cellar??

Thanks folks!! I have learned SO much from everyone here on DG!
