I already bought and planted my Westbourne 2010 intros late this summer so I am ahead there.
What with the eccomonic crunch and the still high prices on new introductions, I was wondering what sorts of plans most of us were making for next springs purcheses? Are you planning on adding any 2010 intros and if so from whom?
I had really gone to town buying current years new intros last fall for this spring but I am not going to be doing that this year. We are heading into what is always the slowest part of the year (winter) for me in my business and it has already slowed down quickly this fall. With the ecomony the way it is, I expect my business (self employed) winter sales to be much lower than they have been in many, many years.
On top of that I overspent on my summer front yard hardscape were I put in all that new pathway and steps. It really needed doing and I am not sorry as I am very happy with the end result. Just means I have less left to spend this winter but I am not complaining as I have been spending very freely for the past few years and my daylily gardens are smashing in my opinion :-))
So I figgure I will just choose carefully. Last year I bought the entire Korth collection and then some. Ended up with 21 new Korths. I am planning to buy 1-3 only (already know the possibles from seeing pictures) but need to see stats and prices. Its likely I will only buy the one deep stunner purple called AUGUST GROOM.
I also bought a nice bunch of new Emmeriches last year and planted ten new ones this spring. I haven't seen Karols 2010 offerings. I know there will be must haves but the less I spend there the better. Not that I don't always love those intros.
But there were some of my favorite hybridizers I didn't get too last year and really want to add more of those this year. I passed by both Brian Culver and Melanie Mason intros in favor of spending on those Emmerich and Korth intros last year but this year will definately buy from Culver and Mason again. There daylilies do too well for me here not to get more of them.
