I've check the web site you recommended and still do not have an answer to the question. Are there any other suggestions. Question - How does the young grass like Screw Pine grow into the tree like adult plant?

Through photosynthesis and respiration it produces vascular bundles which form into leaves, each one larger than the last, till eventually the plant forms into a tree.
