Does it make a difference if you leave a piece of clove or whatever inside while canning pickled veggies? And if it does, is it a taste issue or an appearance one? I've noticed that some recipes want you to use a spice bag, and then others want the spices put into the jar before adding the veggies & syrup.

I like the look of spices floating around in the jar, but since I'm very new at this, I thought I'd ask before I made a bad mistake and ruined all the hard work!
