The 12 Month Quilting Block Swap for 2009-10 has begun!
Each month will be a seperate thread so we can keep track of the blocks, colors and the results.

Remember, each participant will choose a pattern and colors for the blocks she wants for her month. Each month, except the one that is yours, you will make a quilt block (and one for yourself if you choose) in the pattern and colors designated by that months' individual. Send the block to me and I will send all 12 blocks to the person whose month it is. No embroidery since some don't have that machine option, but you can choose from a variety of patterns.

Block Specifics:

1. All fabric should be 100% cotton. Please wash all fabric before making
block.
Fabric is completely up the individual as long as it is 100% cotton.
2. Do not use any spray starch on blocks, spray sizing is OK.
3. Remove all selvages before cutting fabric for blocks
4. Block should be 12.5 x 12.5 when finished.
5. Make 1 block to send and 1 block for yourself (optional).
6. Cut off date for your mailing would be the end of the month i.e. the June
block would need to be mailed not later than June 30th.
7. Remember, after you make a quilt we would love to see your results!!

You will be signing up for the entire year, so even if you get your blocks in the early months, remember you need to stick with us for the entire year. Others are counting on you. If something happens and you will not be able to complete a month or the 12 months, please contact the hostess as soon as possible. I realize that everyone has a life outside of the swap, but please try to plan, so that things will go smoothly.

The following are participants in this swap, their colors and months they will receive their blocks.

This is going to be a tough one for a me as I usually don't use stripes, plaids or polka dots in the things I do, except if they are black and white. I'll use ANY B&W! but I don't think that is what Jaye had in mind.

I'm doing an appliqued Santa and, would you believe, I had to go out and buy small pieces to make it. I just didn't have any scapes that were the right color! I must be doing something wrong with my stash.
Wish I had thought of it sooner as I know some of you would have been able to supply me with scraps but the class is tonight.

I pulled out a bunch of fabrics I think will work. The ones I plan on using will be very close in colors and style to the example block in the link. Hope that's okey dokey! all except for the pink ones of course :)

ok, guess I haven't been in this group long enough... why doesn't Jaye like pink???????????

Funny story from the weekend:
We were traveling out of state for a family wedding this past weekend. Stopped at a restaurant to eat supper, on the way out of the bathroom, a mom was helping her little boy (about 4-5) reach up for the soap dispenser. He held out his hands, she pushes the dispenser button... "AAAAAWWWW, MOM!!! That's PINK soap! Don't they have any blue? I'm a boy!!!!!" All the while, he's squirming around trying to get the soap off his hands and the mom is trying not to drop him.. All the rest of us were just chuckling away, and her face was sooooo red, and he was deadly serious!!!! The only thing she said was, "It was hard enough to convince him that it was ok to go with me into a ladies restroom, now I have to try to explain this!"
Funny stuff you hear from little ones in a public bathroom...

Hehehe.. out of the mouths of innocent babes.

Kizmo, I'm the oldest daughter and hence till I was 6, was subjected to my mother's obsessiveness in dressing me from head to toe in pink.
If she could get away in coloring my hair, pink, she would.
Think my dad convinced her that that won't look too good on an Asian child.

I remember a little girl that's not so little now, being put into the corner while I said you are going to stand there whether you like it or not! well, she stood there hollering I like it NOT! I like it NOT! that phrase stuck with her until this very day.

Fortunately, I didn't have any girls... they would have been 'pink'! I think there's nothing cuter than a little girl dressed in pink, but only when they are little. My mom dressed me more in white than anything, for some reason. The only real pink things I had were hand me downs from my cousin, with the exception of a few summer tops I made. But I understand too much pink, my FIL took care of an older lady's house years ago and EVERY room in her house was pink of one form or another! We laughed every time she called...

(making a note that pink is definitely not your color...lol)

well, I got my block put together perfectly...wrong! ppfffffffffttttt...back to the drawing board! I sewed the blocks with the long piece and two patches on horizontally instead of vertically! I know what happened, I ran to Walgreens this afternoon for cold medicine, took some then saw the really tiny print that said nighttime formula. That'll teach me to number 1-go shopping without my glasses and number 2-to sew while under the influence!

It's November and we need to get busy on our blocks for this month. With Thanksgiving at the end and Chritmas not far behind we should all try and get this one and maybe December, too done early this month.

I finally found fabric for this one. Finding plaids was like hens teeth; none to be found. But I did come up with some stripes, polka dots, and checks that I think will do. I was checking out at JoAnn's and two of the womean wanted to know what I was doing with the great bunch of fabric so it should be a nice one.

speaking of cupboards...for the second time in about 3 weeks, something has flown out of the cupboard when the door where I keep my bakeware is opened. 3 weeks ago it was a dish that I know was properly sitting on the shelf, it just flew out and busted into a million zillion pieces. Last night, a measuring cup flew out and landed on the glass frying pan lid and shattered it. I need to get my level out to see if the shelves have shifted somehow but they look level to me. How wierd!

Then Quilter send me a whole packet of blocks; Dec, Jan, Feb., and March! You can tell she likes to keep ahead. All were beautiful and I know those who get them will think so too.

What with the Holidays coming up we have to get on the ball and remember to do these blocks. November is a really easy one so get it done before Thanksgiving and we will be ready for Christmas.

Greg (son) asked me yesterday if I had a dream that I wouldn't be around this Christmas to be decorated, shopping done etc.? he just shakes his head..knows his mom by now!

I ask the young ones, what would you like for Christmas..all say, 'way too soon grandma' lordy it's but weeks away...so text/telephones it will be..not going to wait for all their lists...

Santa should surprise one shouldn't he?

I ordered some pantographs this AM. I have plenty of quilts to practice on and they were on sale. Hopefully the ones I got aren't too difficult - suitable for a beginner. One even has an 11" design appropriate for a block. Can't wait to try them out.

Looks like it will be mostly cloudy in MD today. Good day to finish up that computer room project. The catz will be happy when the futon is uncluttered and they will again have a good spot for napping.

A panto is a long sheet with a continuous quilting design that lays on the table in back of the quilt. So, you stand in back of the table and follow the design with the laser light on the machine. So, you trace the design with the laser and as you move the machine, the quilting is being done.
I've tried it a couple times but have never done an entire quilt.

I would love to. Are there other threads that go with this (i.e) in the first post "The 12 Month Quilting Block Swap for 2009-10 has begun!
Each month will be a seperate thread so we can keep track of the blocks, colors and the results."

Welcome drapelady - it's great to meet new people!!! Can you tell us a little bit about you? Do you sew/quilt? How did you find us?
The 12 Month block is full I'm afraid. It started way back last summer with 12 people. I'm sure another will most likely start up after the holidays. In the meantime feel free to jump in on the others mentioned by Cher above. If you have any questions about any of them, just ask and I'll help where I can. Again Welcome!!!!!

I looked at the other threads and all of them are fascinating. But I so love the patterns on this one and the co ordinating color schemes. So I will keep my eye out for when another 12 month block starts again. In the mean time, maybe I'll be brave enough to join another group as well.

I'm going to check yours out now Qwilter.

Drapelady - we'd love to have you join us. I was welcomed by this group @18 months ago (has it reaaly been that long?) and have had a great time. We've lost some members, but have gained many more. We all come from different backgrounds, but I believe, if we ever do get to meet as a group, we would have a wonderful time.
I've enjoyed the swaps. Some of the newwe quilters have made such progress. And this is a great way to learn.
That log cabin/9 patch swap would be a great place to get started. And ask questions. Someone here usually has answers/techniques to share.

Now I must hit the shower and get ready to head off to work. At least "quilt" is not a 4 letter word!!!!

Debra's block came yesterday so the only one still out is Betty. I think I Jaye this weekend and have Betty send her's directly to Jaye. I'll take pictures as usual and post when Jaye gets her blocks.

This was an interesting month. I found out just how little of a stash I have if I had to go out and buy fabric for the scrap quilt! But then, any excuse to buy fabric.

That is one of my big worrys about moving to a completely different area; where will I find the wonderful fabric shops I have here? I will just have to seek out new ones!

I'm like Janice - found my stash wasn't as big as thought. Jaye, I hope my block doesn't ruin the look. I wanted to use the left over fabric from my first quilt that I made in a quilt class. I used a little 'creative license' to declare some prints as stripes or polka dots.

Didn't mean to ignore you ladies. Having pc problems here.

Those that are worried about how your blocks will 'fit', all I can say is..
can a natural mother be deliberately 'cruel' to one of her kids, just because she/he has different characteristics from the others?

Maybe that different 'block' would give that certain 'chutzpah' needed for this collection of scrappy blocks. ;)

Looking forward to them, Janice!

Blocks will go in the mail today. I am putting away Autumn and getting out Christmas decorations today. Can't put too much up with the puppy to get into things but as long as it is high we are OK. While I am taking things down for Christmas I am packing up things for the new house. That way I don;t have to pack twice. We'll see how that works.

I finished the Christmas sewing and cleaned off the dining room table yesterday. It will seem funny not to have the machine set up but I still have the December block to do so it will be out before New Years.

Have lots to do today so must run...Jaye look for a package!
