I've been a bit quiet lately but have been lurking and reading all of your posts with great interest. I love seeing how creative and fearless you all are with your planting and also getting warm fuzzy feelings from your kindness and compassion to all of the members here. I've been pretty occupied (in a good way) with my work and with life in general. I finally started planting a few winter things like broccoli and celery and parsley, and of course the strawberries. They all look lovely and healthy so far. I have plans to plant lots of seeds soon. The soil is newly amended thanks to a friend who has chickens, horses, and goats with tiny ears (so cute!). I'm behind in the planting, as usual, but better late than never. My tomato plants look lovely and are starting to produce again after a very dismal performance this summer so they're still in place, taking up precious room in my tiny garden. I just don't have the heart to pull them up yet.
Lots has been going on personally. My husband's mother died a month ago and his father is now very near death as well. DH is leaving tomorrow morning for MN. My mother is having more problems with her dementia due to a medication change that was probably not in her best interest. Today I'm firing the current doctor and setting her up with a new one. Fortunately, the assisted living center where she lives has been extremely supportive, bless their very patient hearts. I took her to J.C. Penny on Saturday for her pedicure and ended up having to call the police to calm her down. She wouldn't let me near her without hitting and kicking so I had to have one of the workers at her home come and pick her up. Since then she's been very angry and combative. Sigh! This sounds very stressful but over the years I've learned so much about how to handle these episodes that I'm more able to calmly approach the situation and deal with it rather than dissolving into tears and frustration. At least we didn't need to hospitalize her this time.
Thanks for listening!
