My neighbors were just given a "wood" buning stove - a Glacier Bay. I'm concerned that it is actually a coal stove and they don't know the difference as people used to burn coal in the are in which I live. Is there an easy way to tell the difference?

A coal stove must have a grate for he burning coal to sit on and allow air to enter from the bottom, while a wood stove would have a cradle to put the wood in.
