Have any of you tried the Smart Pots for growing your coleus? If most of my cuttings make it through winter, I will be growing a lot of new cultivers next year and am thinking about putting them each in separate pots so I can get a good idea of how tall each grows and what form it takes. Figure that in single pots, they should be easy to rearrange so the tall ones are in back and also to make experiment with different color combinations easier. Here are the 3 smallest sizes for the Smart Pots. So you think #2 would work well for the single coleus? Or the #1 or 3?
Smart Pot #1 (1 Gallon)
7.00 inches diameter by 5.50 inches deep. Holds .83 dry gallons of media.
Smart Pot #2 (2 Gallon)
8.00 inches diameter by 7.00 inches deep. Holds 1.9 dry gallons of media.
Smart Pot #3 (3 Gallon)
10.00 inches diameter by 8.50 inches deep. Holds 2.9 dry gallons of media.
I'm planning on using an 80% coir, 20% perlite potting mix. Anyone know how they grow in coir? That's also what I'm rooting them in.
This last summer some of the smaller ones in my pots got buried under the more vigorous growers and it was hard to tell what the colors would look like together until they matured a little, so am hoping the single pots work better.
Thanks for any suggestions or hints you can give. Here is a link to the Smart Pots:
