'Lemon Ice' is a small grower, a very delicate colour. Almost lost this one to shade. It looks good mixed with 'Victoria Falls', a mauve blue.

Iris ochroleuca is a great clumping tall Iris. It likes to remain undisturbed for year. It is very hardy. The flowers although a pretty yellow white mix, do not have a great scent.

Fancy a 'Mexican Holiday' anyone. Not a good pic but the flowers higher on the stem should look better. A lot of dead and dying leaves this year due to the continuous damp. Should be better next year in the new area where the plants will get sun all day and not be overshadowed by trees.

So many lovely Iris Jean! It is a pleasure to come home from a day at work and find yet another bloom to greet me.

Jean, do you lime up your soil? Curious, as I do not know your local soil profile. Ours here in the Sydney Basin is largely acidic.

We have little success here with the "Beards" as we have limited space, other plants invade. A designated plot with roses would be lovely! Our local Community Garden, "The Lilian Fraser Garden" has just that. So I am contented to enjoy the wonderful bearded Iris there and here with your lovely plants!

Our two here, 'Lemon Mist' and 'Victoria Falls', will eventually bite the dust! :( So must move on to higher ground! :)

Thanks for all the nice comments. Wayne, the soil here is clay based and tends to be a little on the alkaline side as azaleas etc don't like it much. I used a little lime before planting when I moved the iris last year and will do so again on the new permanent area, but usually they just grow and it must suit them. I fertilise the whole iris area with a mix of superphosphate, potash and sulphate of ammonia. This is all they get for the year. I must admit that the plants and flowers are sometimes a bit small at first but if left to clump up will make lovely growth with large flowers.
The area I have now made as a permanent iris area was once ( before I met hubby) a vegie garden and the soil is a little easier to break up than other parts. I will be spreading some gypsum and a little propagating sand on the beds to make it more friable too.
Here's a dainty lady. 'Pond Lily'
