are gardening heat pads any different than the heat pads we use on our achy sore muscles??

Yes. Seedling heat mats are waterproof, and they only raise the temperature 10-15 degrees above the surrounging temperature.

Please don't use a "regular" heating pad as a seedling head mat.

Quoted from the article:

Electric blankets and household heating pads are not designed for use 24/7 and are not for use in potentially wet environments. All those safety warnings are on them for good reason. Even if you have been using one under your seedlings for years without burning down the house, please consider a safer alternative.
