I've had vandas growing in the garden for a number of years that have never been looked after. I'm the King of Neglect when it comes to plants. Although some are better off for it, I've loved many a plant to death before.
Decided to make a feature of some of my vandas (don't know which species, they were bought over the years at markets from people who knew less about orchids than me). Put in a steel star picket and tied 3 sand palm trunks (dead) to it. Ran up an irrigation line to the top. Then wrapped hessian around all that. Sprinkler jets were connected to the irrigation line, and then more hessian was wrapped around that. The sprinkler jets are between the 2 main layers of hessian and the irrigation comes on automatically morning and evening.
