Hello Aussies,

My sister called me tonight to ask me about the name of a plant and I can't remember the name of it. My mother had it in her garden many years ago.

My sister described it as a plant from Australia and that the flower looks like a hummingbird. The flower is very green and has a purplish throat. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Sure do appreciate you looking at this post.

Thanks,
Donna

Sorry, but she doesn't have a pic. She just remembers the plant and needs a name for a class.

The only green flower I can think of is a Kangaroo paw, but I don't think it looks much like a hummingbird! he he. Good luck

Although the blooms aren't green and don't have a purple throat, could the plant in question possibly be this one, with the common name of Canary Bird Bush? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59343/

Donna, did you mother live in Southern California when she had this plant in her garden? Any idea of how tall/wide it was at maturity, or the time of year it was in bloom?

I just sent my sister an email with all this information and hopefully she will be able to tell us if it's correct.
Yes, my mom lived in S. Ca, but I don't remember the plant, but my sister does.

Yes it is hel...:-) Where else can you find a name of a plant and talk to someone in Australia about it.

I love that pic you posted. It is so serene and peaceful.

Does anyone know what this plant is?

I found it in the green waste bin a few months back as a pot bound "indoor" plant.

Having divided it into several small sections, I grew on in 6" pots.

The leaves have the texture of a Polyanthus, but are narrow and longer.

Here are a few pix.
