Does this plant grow slowly or am I just not giving it the proper care? Mine looks healthy but it just seems to grow so slow.

It's a very slow grower for me as well. I see one report in Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/83313/ of someone in southwest Florida who states it's very fast growing so maybe it depends on climate and cultural conditions? At one time I had six pretty full plants but with neglect they've all gone by the wayside and I'm down to only one neglected little plant.

ok the envronmentalist reason...

It takes 10 trees to balance out 1 persons carbon footprint so I figure 20 plants for 10 trees, but see I smoke (chantix is helping It's been a week), so then I need 40 plants to break even, but I also want to improve so 50 to combat my carbon footprint, then I also need 50 fr the BF cause he smokes, and 50 for the 19 yo cause he smokes, and 50 for the 15 yo who steals our smokes, so thats 200 then I have 4 other kids at 20 apiece so that's 280 but then you see they all build hot rods so I need to add 100 plants per hot rod...so lets see 15 cars times 100 is 1500 = 280 so I need 1780 plants to combat our carbon footprint before I can start collecting plants for pleasure

LOL
