Bet you are all real shocked I would start a thread like this aren't you? LOL
A long time ago I had a thread about the animals and insects you see in your backyard and if you all keep journals of what you see.
Over the years I keep talking about doing this but never got around to doing it.
I live on the far southeast side of Tucson and over the years I've seen animals out here I haven't seen since I was a kid growing up in Tucson.
So far the best thing I've seen has been a black rattlesnake. Now that was cool.
I've seen a lot of road kill out here also and was a little surprised to see raccoons.
Skunks are also pretty common and don't want to see on in the backyard.
I kept thinking we had a resident skunk that liked to visit but found out one night it was smelly javalina not skunks I was smelling.
I even thought I saw what really looked like a badger one time.
Still cant wrap my brain around that one.
So why I started this thread.
Last night the wife and oldest daughter come home and they all excited because they just saw a animal they haven't seen before out here.
This was at night, this was by two people that aren't exactly the outdoorsy types.
They are more the give me a remote control and good movie types.
So I ask questions and try to get a description of what this thing looks like.
I would like to know because we let the dogs out at night and I don't want them messing with something that might not like to be messed with.
Their description was that it was the size of a house cat and brown with a really big bushy tail.
My first thought was squirrel. I bring up a picture of the squirrels we have in Tucson.
Nope that’s not it.
OK, now I'm grasping, how about a fox? Bring up pictures of fox's that live around Tucson.
Nope, that’s not it either.
Now I'm really grasping.
Are you sure it wasn’t a cat? Yes. Not a cat.
OK, how about a ringtail? Hmmmm. Maybe?
But we don’t think so.
Now I'm getting a little flustered and just randomly start calling up mammals of Tucson.
Ohh, what's that. A coati? Yea, looked like that but the tail was a lot bushier.
Great.
So we have something that’s about the size of a cat, isn't a squirrel, isn't a ringtail but looks like one, isn't a coati but looks kinda like one, and has a fox tail.
I pulled up every mammal that has ever set foot in pima county and I am now of the opinion that I have a chupacabri living in the neighborhood.
This should be a fun halloween with the flyen monkey's and chupacabri in our neighborhood. hehehe
