I manage my 1/4 acre vegetable garden using few pesticides with those that I do use derived from plants (rotenone, oils, etc.) BUT I have a growing (literally) problem with Johnson grass which arrived here when a former owner spread horse manure. I've dug it, sprayed with vinegar repeatedly, burned it and...it's worse than ever. In disgust last year, I even resorted to a couple of courses of Round-Up before I planted anything in the spring. The Round-Up temporarily inhibited the grass (better than my other approaches) but now it is back worse than ever. WHAT can I do about those deep, perennial roots. Soon I'll have no vegetables, just grass.

I know I am bad! BUT I LOVE ROUND UP!
Without round up I would have to give up and let the weeds take me down. You had it on the run with round up and you should have kept it up that year untill it was all gone. I had a great big poison ivy vine growing up on my fence by the yard and it got out of hand. I sprayed it every time it produced a new leaf ! -- I was standing there almost waiting for it to leaf out. It suffered a cruel and long death, but I - like I said I am bad!
