| This is growing in a ditch just down the road from me... haven't seen any blooms yet, but if know what it is, maybe I can snag some before the county comes by to mow it down.
Thanks Click the image for an enlarged view.

| flowers are produced at the end of the branch. There are different species of Costus used as ornamentals example Costus speciosus Crape Ginger, Costus woodsonii, Costus curvibracteus. They are called Spiral Ginger. Weed it is very relative!, for me an ornamental. This group of plants are very fascinating! But sometimes is hard to get rid off the clumps of Costus in one area. I had that experience. |

| Check this one, as it seems to resemble your photo most closely. It is Costus pulverulentus, commonly among many called Spiral Ginger. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1035/ |

| Ok...so I can just dig out some of the bulb/tubers? Like I said they are in a ditch...don't want the whole plant in my truck.

| I like those! What are the chances of you getting one or two extra tubers? |

| Will get as many as I can, as long as I don't get arrested for digging in the ditch ~LOL~ |

| I would think digging would be better, if you pull them, they are likely to break and then you will have to dig. |

| even if the county mows them down the tubers should still be there. It is easier to mail a tuber than a plant |
